The Sail

The Sail is a contemporary adult fairytale by G. K. Allum, privately published in 2010 and illustrated by Polish artist Taxi Taxi.

The limited first edition comprised 500 copies, each individually numbered and included a wax-sealed love letter in each copy. SOLD OUT.

The narrative follows an anonymous protagonist who, lost in the wilderness and awaiting the return of his love, begins constructing a boat for them to sail around the world. He spends his days hammering nails and his evenings varnishing wood. Stitching together the pages of love letters, he makes a sail, allowing the northerly winds to blow words of love across oceans.

This poetical novel received honorable mentions at the 21st Writer's Digest Book Awards in 2013 and was stocked in Waterstones and various independent bookstores in the UK.
